A note from Dave...
Here's to the kindness and consideration
of the North Carolina Dive Traveler.
Gypsy Divers has been leading dive trips since 1982... (well, technically,
Margie and I started leading dive groups in 1982, and Margie came up
with the name Gypsy Divers in 1984.) One of our first trips was to Sunset
House on Grand Cayman. When we booked back another group in 1983, the
Sunset staff made a point of letting us know how much they'd enjoyed
our first group... and a couple of their divemasters actually got into
a fight over who would get to work with this sencond group of divers
- seriously.
And certainly our good looks had something to do with this, but more
importantly, it is simply that North Carolina people are more courteous,
considerate, and actually helpful than average. In the above instance,
we were hugely appreciated because we would help them haul air bottles
to the boat. We even formed a daily bottle brigade to load/unload the
boat for them. Further, we were never adverse to standing for a few
beverages for the dive staff at the end of a long day. And we tipped.
(This courtesy is a LONG way from universal in the dive community, even
today.)
In exchange, we were always rewarded with great dive service and access
to some amazing dive sites. Quid pro quo and the golden rule on a dive
vacation, so to speak.
I just got an email from a dive destination from which we just returned,
thanking me for sending down "a truly great bunch of nice, understanding
people and competent divers." (their quote) The email ends with
"Please send more folks like these!"
No problem doing that - it's just the way we are around here. Blame
our mamas. And please know I appreciate each and every one of you for
being a joy to work with (well... 99% of you, anyway<G>).
We've got some tremendous diving activities going on - hope you can
indulge. Let us know if we can help in any way.
