Now here's a great shot! Leah Zulling grabbed this picture diving offshore NC a month ago. Here's Leah's story: We were diving on the Spar during the Memorial Day weekend. The water temp was very comfortable in the low 70s, much more pleasant than the blustery topside weather. We giant-strided in and were immediately rewarded with a scenic view and about 18 sand tiger sharks of varying size. We had just descended when I glanced up at the wreck and saw a shark acting a little bit unusual. (It's important to note that this was John's first shark encounter, so he had no idea what to expect!) A shark swam directly towards us, swerving at the last minute and swimming in between John and I. Dad missed it; he was smitten with some amberjacks. Sharky chomped at a pretty good sized fish!! The whole thing happened so quickly, I snatched up my camera and snapped the shot. I'm not sure if he got the fish, but I suspect that he did because the poor little guy (pomano? amberjack? it was silver with a round head) was nowhere to be seen. Very exciting!! Here's
an August Note from Dave
