Certification Dives at Fantasy
Lake
(aka the Rolesville
Rock Quarry)
Completing your SCUBA certification at Fantasy Lake, located
a mere 15 miles from Gypsy Divers, is an efficient and convenient way
to become certified. It's certainly not as exciting as one of our GypsyTrips,
but it is easy to get to and we use it all through the local dive season
and have been since 1982. Here's a link
to the Fantasy Lake website.
What to bring:
Friday: If you have not yet
purchased your own diving equipment, then you must come to the shop
on Friday between noon and 7PM to receive your rental gear - and to
be evaluated as you:
- check it out from our rental department,
- assemble it properly,
- test and confirm function of all components,
- confirm sizing and proper weight requirements.
This is a critical part of YOUR
training and cannot be assigned to others. Please arrange
to have plenty of time to do this - this is part of your learning process.
This is also the time to get a map to the quarry from us if you need
one.
Saturday: We meet
at Fantasy Lake at 8AM. Make sure you have everthing listed in the "What
to bring" section above with you. When you stop at the gate to
pay the entry fee, tell the attendant you are with Gypsy Divers and
he or she will direct you to our group. Advise your instructor that
you have arrived and just relax and wait for further directions. You
will complete one snorkel dive and two scuba dives the first day and
will be finished around 3PM. When you are finished with your diving,
you will need to return to Gypsy Divers to get your air cylinders refilled
for Sunday. Gypsy is only open until 5PM, so we suggest you come straight
from Fantasy Lake.
Sunday: We meet
at Fantasy Lake at 8AM. You will complete two final scuba dives and
receive your temporary certification card from your instructor. There
is typically enough time in the day left for you to do your first dive
as a certified diver if you wish, so be prepared to fully enjoy the
beginning of your new life of underwater adventure. If you have rental
gear, you may return it to Gypsy Divers, as long as you get there before
4PM. Gypsy will have hoses, rinse buckets, and hanging racks located
just outside the pool door on the right side of the building so you
can thoroughly clean your equipment prior to checking it in. Or you
can clean it at home and bring it by the shop between 11AM and 7PM on
Monday.
