Deep Diver
Tuiton: $75

2009 dates TBA

The Deep Diver course introduces divers to the techniques commonly utilized to safely dive the 60 to 130 foot depth range. In the summer months, this course involves at least 2 dives on the wrecks offshore North Carolina. We also offer it during any appropriate Gypsy dive trips. A typical course utilizes home study, one classroom session (going over decompression theory, air consumption rates, dive plannning, etc.), and 2 dives completed under the direct supervision of an instructor.

Here's how we combine Deep and Wreck Diver specialties to teach safe off shore North Carolina diving techniques.

Time Commitment: Approximately two hours at home to complete the home study component, one classroom session, one day in which two dives shall be completed under instructional supervision.

Text: SSI Deep Diver Home Study Kit , $36.95

Required Equipment: Personal snorkeling gear and scuba equipment with functioning BCD auto-inflator and alternate air source, PSI/depth gauges and a computer, two dive cylinders, appropriate exposure suit, compass, slate, personal surface marking device (scuba tuba), whistle, and dive knife or shears.
Additional Recommended equipment: The Wreck Diver Package which includes: wrist slate, jon line, wreck reel & really big safety sausage for $199.

Required Experience level: Carolina wreck diving is some of the most exciting diving on the planet. BUT - it is done at the deep limit of the sport diving range, and it is 30 to 50 miles offshore, and it is in the volatile weather conditions found in the open Atlantic Ocean. So it is only prudent to have some non-negotiable rules in place. Here's ours:

Charters are $140 per day and include a night's dorm accommodation at Discovery Diving in Beaufort the night prior to the dive. We do not determine what wreck we will be diving until we're heading out the inlet and checking sea conditions, but we will generally be diving the 100 to 130' depth curve (Papoose, Atlas, U-352, etc.). All charter participants MUST HAVE an ADVANCED OPEN WATER RATING (AOW) or equivalent rating (any agency) and at least 2 previously logged dives deeper than 100 feet offshore North Carolina to get on the charter- OR be enrolled in our Deep/Wreck specialty courses completing your AOW Dives for certification. Charter is booked with full payment. In the event of a cancellation, no refunds are given unless the charter spot is re-sold or the dive is cancelled due to weather.
