Hello and WELCOME Grouponicus!

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE CAREFULLY.
We want you to fully understand the SCUBA training program.

We're really looking forward to introducing you to the world we enjoy so much. And we promise you a thorough and comprehensive training program that we guarantee you'll find exceptional. We do warn you - Our goal is to change your life very much for the better by introducing you to a whole new world. Be prepared!

And to make sure you're fully prepared - and informed, please read the following very carefully:

The Grouponicus deal includes everything we generally provide in our $455 normally-scheduled GROUP scuba course:

  • On-line and/or home study materials
  • 6 training sessions in our classroom and pool, generally running around 4 hours each
  • 2 days of check-out dives as the final step to earning the Open Water scuba certification
  • Use of all SCUBA equipment and wetsuits for pool and check-out dives
  • Awarding of the Scuba Schools International Open Water Diver certification, upon successful completion of all training components.

The deal does NOT include:

  • Personal snorkeling equipment. We believe you need best-fit equipment for this, so we ask you to provide your own. We do sell this equipment and do offer special pricing to our students, but we don't require you to buy your equipment from us. It just has to fit you well.
  • Transportation costs or admission fees for your check-out dives. We generally do these locally in the warmer months, with the admission fees to our local rock quarries currently running $15-$20 per day. We offer check-out dives on our group trips to warmer waters in the colder months, but you would be expected to pay your own transport, lodging, etc.

There are also certain pre-requisites to taking a scuba course with us:

  • You must complete this medical history form and bring it with you. If you can answer "no" to each of the medical history questions, a physician's approval is not needed. If you need to answer "yes" to one or more of the medical history questions, you will need to obtain your doctor's approval prior to being able to participate. Call us at 255-1931 if you've got questions.
  • Students between 12 and 18 years of age must have parental permission, with the parent accompanying them to class the first session.
  • We will only teach 10 or 11-year olds if the parents are already divers or are enrolling in the class with them. We don't offer scuba certification to anyone younger than 10.
  • Everyone must pass a swim test in the first pool session, which includes swimming 200 yards, untimed, using any stroke or strokes you prefer, followed immediately by a 10-minute tread or float. You must pass this test to start the program. If you're not sure you can complete this test, please consider coming in to practice, or to even take a round of adult swim lessons. Scuba is enjoyed best by comfortable swimmers.

Once you've enrolled in the course, then the following rules apply:
  • You must attend each of the 6 sessions of your scuba class in order. Missing a class may require a make-up session, for which we will charge $45. Select your schedule carefully to avoid this.
  • You must schedule your check-out dives as soon as possible after you complete your pool training. We will require an additional refresher pool session for anyone who schedules their check-out dives more that 60 days after they complete their pool training.

And one last thing: There is ABSOLUTELY NO REFUND for any un-used portion of the Grouponicus coupon. Groupon will issue you a refund if you have to drop the course for medical reasons.

OK - that's the end of all the serious boilerplate. Now let's get down to getting you started:

  • Choose a class and then give us a call at 255-1931.
  • Have your Groupon coupon number handy as we will need that to initiate your enrollment. And please call us quickly. We cap the enrollment of each class at 8 to 10 students and we want you comfortably enrolled asap into a schedule that works for you.
  • You can start your academic training immediately by coming in and getting your home study materials and/or going to the SSI On-line Training site and enrolling in the Open Water Diver on-line course. Make sure and list Gypsy Divers as your dive retailer so we can track your progress.
  • Remember: You MUST have completed the first three chapters of your home study materials prior to your first class and you must bring your completed homework to that class.
Again, welcome aboard. Don't hesitate to give us a call if you've got more questions. 255-1931.
